GENERAL INFORMATION
1. All entrants must fill out an entry form with complete information. It must be signed by a parent or teacher for entrants under 18. Incomplete entries will not be accepted.
2. Entries received after the deadline may be refused.
3. In the event of a withdrawal, there shall be no refund of the entry fee.
4. In classes where the age limit is specific, the performer's age is to be taken as of the 31st of December of the previous year.
5. Adult entries are welcome. They will be listed separately in the program so that adults and children/youth are not competing against each other.
6. Any individual may elect to perform non-competitively in which case Non-Competitive must be clearly stated on the entry form. All non-competitive classes will receive adjudication and marks. Their marks will not be announced publicly. Depending upon the discipline they may be eligible for awards and scholarships. The following classes will be non-competitive:
a) vocal solos - 6 years old and under
b) choral classes - kindergarten and nursery
c) piano - beginner and sometimes grade one
d) dance - 6 years and under
e) speech clases - kindergarten
7. The Provincial Syllabus has general regulations that also apply to our festival. Check the syllabus for a specific discipline or contact the director listed on the first page of the addendum if you have a question. The Provincial Syllabus is available in print or electronic copy for purchase from AMAF (Associated Manitoba Arts Festivals). Their website is: http://www.amaf.mb.ca/ . 8. Festival Piano Use: Entrants are permitted to make their own arrangements to try the festival piano prior to the festival day. During the festival, the piano is off limits to all persons except for the actual festival performance and adjudication.
9. A specialist adjudicator is not guaranteed for a music area if there are insufficient participants. (ie strings, guitar).
10. The Pas Music and Fine Arts Festival may, at its discretion, create a class in andy discipline where an entry warrants.
11. The Pas Music and Fine Arts Festival may, at its discretion, cancel a class where enough entries are not received to justify the hiring of an adjudicator.
12. An entrant may make only one entry in any one class except with special permission of the festival committee. In the case of "own choice", the choice and suitability of selections will be considered in adjudication. When more than one piece is required, these selections should be of a contrasting nature.
13. Entrants may not perform the same selection in any class in subsequent festival years.
14. Duets, trios and groups should be entered in the class corresponding to the average age or grade of the participants.
15. The Adjudicator shall have the discretionary power to stop any performance at any time and/or instruct the omission of repeats.
16. No Videotaping of adjudications is allowed. VIdeotaping of the performance is allowed.
GENERAL MUSIC INFORMATION
Music is the responsibility of the entrant and should be purchased early. For all music entries, competitors must provide an original of the selection to the director or secretary prior to performance. Photocopies are not allowed. Any entrant offering such copies will be disqualified. Music purchased via the Internet must be accompanied by a receipt.
Transposition: Unless otherwise specified, selections may be transposed to suit the individual voice.
Taped accompaniment is permitted at our local festival. It is not permitted in any class eligible for the provincial and national finals.
A chord may be given on the piano at the commencement of each piece of unaccompanied music.
SPEECH INFORMATION
Resourse manual: A Speech Arts Manual will be available at The Pas Regional Library and at the registration desk. There will be a small charge for copies to entrants. All other entries are the responsibility of the entrant and must be chosen by the entry deadline. If your selection is not from the manual, the entrant must provide an original of the selection to the director or secretary prior to the commencement of the session.
No hand gestures may be used in Spoken Poetry of Story Telling.
A Classroom Speech Choir is expected to include at least 90% of the class.
Drama: Only one act plays are allowed. The entrant is responsible for own props and practice arrangements. Any introduction or explanation necessary to a play must be done by a member of the same age group.
